Etching, drypoint and aquatint from Los Caprichos (plate 1), 1799, 215 x 150 mm., Harris 36 iii/iii, Third Edition (1868). The man himself, age 53, and at the height of his powers -- although that height was a plateau that lasted to the end of his life. A fine impression in brown-black, showing only slight wear, on wove paper with full margins. The plate is beveled only at the top and bottom, which was done during the printing of the second edition; the sides were beveled before the fourth edition. The sheet size here matches exactly that given by Harris for the third edition. The sheet edge at the left is ragged. Both the second and third editions were small and good impressions are quite rare and much in demand.
