Stage Design of Roman Ruins

Aquatint and etching, 1814, from Invenzioni Teatrali, 375 x 470 mm., Le Blanc N.D. Luigi Rados, a native of Parma, is not exactly a household name in the world of print makers, but in 1814 he produced a superb set of twenty-four aquatinted stage settings after the great theatrical designer Gaspare Galliari. His technical abilities were top flight and Galliari’s imaginative designs received stunning representations. Fine impression on laid paper trimmed on or just inside the platemark but with white space all around the subject and letters; small damages and stains in the blank edges, minor creases and a small surface abrasion in the image. We have other plates from the series including the attractive title page; please inquire.
