Scenic Design (“A Great Monster”) for the opera "Angelica, Vincitrice d’Alcina"
Etching, 1716, 213 x 486 mm., Kinsky 248-1, Musikgeschichte in Bildern: Oper p. 84. Angelica was produced by Ferdinando Galli Bibiena himself in Vienna in 1716, with music by Johann Josef Fux and text by P. Pariati. The complex Baroque stage setting shows the lengths gone to in producing a grand theatrical spectacle to achieve popular success, quite apart from the music or drama. Fine impression on laid paper, trimmed outside or just on the borderline, the signature below; two vertical folds and a few pinholes.
