Arion and the Dolphin (Design for a Platter)
Engraving, 168 x 167 mm., Wurzbach 24, Hollstein 408, from 4 Designs for Platters with Sea Monsters. A fine impression on laid paper with uneven narrow margins outside the square platemark; old creases, a few tiny splits and pinholes and a repaired tear in the background. The design for the platter is circular and set on a shaded black background with a blank panel above for signatures and number. Hollstein incorrectly gives the name as Orion rather than Arion. The plate was published by Philips Galle and is apparently quite rare (as is the rest of the set of four); Hollstein cites only a set from the Lanna collection.
