Rag Yard – Domfront
Etching, ca. 1920, 272 x 227 mm. Fine impression with plate tone on brownish wove paper with good margins, signed, titled and numbered in pencil from the edition of 20. Hubbard, still a familiar name in Britain today, is known best for his color woodcuts. Before he took up that medium, however, he was an etcher of some individuality. Actually, one can see in the concentration here on patterns, simple line work and open spaces the incipient woodcut artist. Domfront is in Normandy.
