Old Brass

Etching, 1919, Modern American Etchers 58, 160 x 125 mm. Very fine impression with plate tone on laid paper with full margins, signed in pencil. Heintzelman, as Keeper of Prints at the Boston Public Library and head of the art department at Rhode Island School of Design, was an influential figure in American print making for many years. Winner of multiple awards, his etchings reproduced in Fine Prints of the Year over a long period of time, he was well known to collectors. Hardly so now. His etchings are undervalued because they are unfamiliar to younger generations, but the quality is still there. This is a particularly lovely, and early, image by him.
