The Kiss
Engraving, 1540, 82 mm. diameter, Bartsch 16, Hollstein 22. Brosamer made comparatively few engravings (Bartsch lists twenty-four) and they are almost all rare. His scene here is notable for its complexity, for the presence of a well-rendered lute, and for the enigmatic figure in the rear, who may, or may not, represent death. A good, clear, but greyish impression on laid paper, trimmed on or just inside the circular platemark.
