Grammatica

Engraving from The Seven Liberal Arts, ca. 1541, 72 x 49 mm., Bartsch 110, Landau 109 only state. Fine impression on laid paper, trimmed on the platemark and 1-2 mm. within at the right; an uninked vertical line at the left. The allegorical figure holds a key because Grammatica is the key to all other learning. The Latin phrase on the panel at the lower left, Acitam Marg, appears to mean "I shall see beyond the border," but we would be grateful if any Latin scholar would correct or improve upon that translation.
