The Fifer
Engraving, 1555, 71 x 47 mm., Bartsch 71, Hollstein 173, ex collection W. E. Drugulin (Lugt 2612). Fine impression on laid paper, the paper slightly rubbed outside the image, of this extremely rare print, with partial thread margins or trimmed on the platemark. The musician -- with his fancy dress, obviously in the employ of a moneyed patron -- plays a keyless transverse flute. He plays it backwards, however, as Binck never bothered to reverse the composition.
