Madonna and Child Surrounded by Saints
Chiaroscuro woodcut, 1610 (?), Bartsch 25, 360 x 247 mm., ex collections: Unknown paraphe “D”; Ambrois Firmin-Didot (Lugt 119); J. Peoli (L. 2020).
Fine impression in black and two tones of brownish grey (Gandini's signature dropped out of all three blocks and appearing white) on laid paper with small margins outside the borderline; two horizontal printer's creases, visible but not losing ink. The print bears Andreani's address and the date 1610, but Bartsch does not mention any earlier state or publication and this is probably its first and only printing. The print is rare. The impression, though apparently printed a bit lighter, compares favorably with the one from Chapel Hill, NC reproduced in TIB, and is more complete on the left side.
