Etching from The Four Elements (1st set), Hollstein 19, Franken & Van der Kellen 135 ii/iv, 187 x 285 mm. Very fine, early impression, before Visscher's address was replaced by Valck's, on laid paper with watermark (difficult to decipher) and with one-inch margins; small printer's creases, the margins dusty, lacking the LL margin corner and with a tiny hole. The image (from a set of the elements, Air, Earth, Fire and Water) is of an interest quite independent of the set, being one of the few truly artistic depictions in graphic art of the ancient sport of falconry. Seventeenth-century Dutch artists were masters of description of their life and times. Early impressions are rare and far superior to the later printings.
