Pluie et Parapluie (Rain and Umbrella)

Etching, drypoint, aquatint and foul biting, 1876-77, B/G 68 iii/iii, 118 x 78 mm. A fine impression from the cancelled plate with drypoint lines crossing the image, on laid paper with full margins and signed with the red owl stamp. The presence of a stamped signature indicates the importance of recognizing impressions from cancelled Buhot plates as states. Obviously, they were still important to the artist. The scene is a rainy street in Valognes, a woman with an umbrella followed by a group of dogs.
