Fête Nationale au Boulevard de Clichy (National Holiday on the Boulevard de Clichy)

Etching, drypoint, aquatint, sandpaper soft ground and foulbiting, 1879, B/G 127 vii/viii, 310 x 231 mm. Superb and rare impression, one of only six such, the main subject printed in four colors and the symphonic margins in metallic gold, on vellum with large full margins, signed with the red owl stamp. Though the Fête was not originally intended to be a color print, the colors, and particularly the gold, add immeasurably to the effect, producing one of the truly unique prints of the nineteenth century.
