Beham: Mask Held by 2 Genii

A Mask Held by Two Genii

Engraving, 1544, 48 x 70 mm., Bartsch 228, Pauli 232 i/ii. A very fine, black impression on laid paper, trimmed on or just inside the platemark, the subject complete; slight paper discoloration, tiny nick at the lower right, 1 mm. of lower right corner clipped. Beham, along with Aldegrever, was one of the great masters of ornament in the sixteenth century. The appeal of such prints seems to be directly proportional to the quality of impression.
