Femme Nue à la Jambe Pliée
Etching, 1931, 312 x 222 mm., Bloch 141, Geiser 208 from the Suite Vollard (Pl. 8), edition 260. Provenance: Sylvan Cole private collection (not in Lugt). Fine impression on Montval laid paper with the watermark Vollard, full margins, signed in pencil; faint line of discoloration around the old mat opening. Though etched in 1931 and printed in 1939, the plate, along with the others of the Suite Vollard, was not offered for sale until 1950. There were, at that time, an additional 50 impressions on paper watermarked Montgolfier and 3 on parchment. The Femme Nue, though not as famous (nor as expensive) as some of the Minotaur images from the set, is really one of its most beautiful plates.
