Lovet-Lorski: Winged Man

Winged Man

Lithograph, ca. 1929, 252 x 165 mm. A fine, strong impression on cream laid paper with full margins, signed in pencil and from a reputed edition of 250. Lovet-Lorski was born in Lithuania and studied at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Art. He emigrated from Russia to America in 1920, living first in Boston and later in New York. With time out for a sojourn in Paris, he eventually became an American citizen. He worked as a sculptor, painter and lithographer and his work is the epitome of the style known as Art Deco but, as opposed to many practitioners of that fashion, it was more art than deco. His images, two-dimensional or three, are invariably striking and personal and look like those of no one else.
