Re-membering
Pen and ink, 2000, 66 x 52 mm. On a late impression of a 16th-century woodcut of the Annuciation to the Virgin Mary, the head of the Virgin has been re-membered as that of a bird. The collector's mark verso is found principally on such late printings of early woodcuts. It is, perhaps, the disassociation of the early block with the late printing that implies forgetfullness of the original and re-membering.
