Speechless
Pen and ink, 2000, 213 x 139 mm., on a late impression of an engraving, dated 1584, by the anonymous Monogramist AcB, with the title Facundia (Eloquence). The original print was once in the collection of Franz Steiner of the Villa Egger in the South Tyrol and bears his stamp. Once again, time has changed things: the Classical view is gone, a medieval town of birdhouses has grown up in its place, dark creatures have invaded the world and eloquence has become inarticulate. Titled, signed and dated.
