Etching and aquatint (or lavis), ca. 1888, 154 x 128 mm., Exsteens 305 i/iii, Ramiro 150, Mascha 777. Superb proof before all letters, with plate tone and inky plate edges, on imperial japan with large margins, signed in red pencil.

Provenance:
Léon Dommartin (Lugt 681). Dommartin (1839-1919) was a Belgian writer and journalist and a close friend of Rops. According to Lugt, his mark appears only on beautiful and unquestioned proofs of Rops’ prints, selected by Rops himself and given to Dommartin, who could not afford to buy them.
