Woodcuts, 1920/21, 255 x 355 mm., Schult 164-66 and 168-71 only states. Superb impressions of the complete set with title and justification page, each print signed in pencil and hinged onto another sheet, the whole contained in a fine, vellum binding, from the edition of 110, as published by Paul Cassirer, Berlin. The bound volume measures 360 x 450 mm. and both the binding and the prints are in immaculate condition. Titles of the individual woodcuts are: The First Day; The Cathedral; The Divine Beggar; Dance of Death 2; The God Belly; The Rocks; and The Seventh Day. The set is Barlach’s supreme accomplishment in woodcut and among the greatest of German twentieth-century Expressionist print sets. No complete set has appeared at auction in over ten years.
