Dialectica
Engraving from The Seven Liberal Arts, ca. 1541, 74 x 50 mm., Bartsch 111, Landau 110 only state. Fine impression on laid paper with thread margins most of the way around, the upper right corner slightly rounded. Also called Logic, the allegorical female figure for Dialectica holds scales for weighing the truth or falsity of a proposition. In this case, she also holds a rolled scroll, more usually associated with Rhetorica.
