Ornament with a Female Centaur (or Triton) and Child
Engraving, ca. 1525, 56 x 80 mm., Bartsch 202, Hollstein 202, ex collection: Henry F. Sewall (Lugt 1309). A good, clear impression on laid paper, trimmed slightly unevenly to the subject. Ornament prints, such as this one, were valued not only for themselves as exquisite, small pieces of craftsmanship, but also as potential designs for jewelry, fabrics, woodworking and interior décor.
