Le Bain
Woodcut, 1894, 135 x 86 mm., Vallotton & Goerg 144, from The Chap Book, Chicago, Dec. 1894. Fine sharp impression on laid or laid-finish paper, with unrelated poetic text verso, the sheet measuring 190 mm. in height, irregularly cut or torn from the publication but with margins all around the borderline, a brown stain at the right sheet edge. V & G note they have never seen an impression of this print, nor was there one in the Vallotton studio sale of later years, although the original drawing was there. The size of the printing is unknown, but most impressions were probably destroyed with the magazine; it was apparently the only original print ever published in The Chap Book. Rare.
