Among print collectors, especially, we seem to notice, there has been a certain lack of attention paid in recent years to the very considerable achievements of the Eighteenth Century.  Yes, a few big names have always been popular, but compared with the interest shown in what were once the obscurities of the nineteenth, seventeenth and sixteenth centuries, not to mention more recent times, Eighteenth-century French engravings, British mezzotints, drawings by lesser masters and even, until recently, the less famous images of Goya have not received their due.  In a modest way, we’d like to remedy that.

This show presents some major names -- Piranesi, Goya, Canaletto, Boucher and others – and also many minor ones.  The striking things is the incredible variety of styles, techniques and images, often based on national tastes: etching in Italy, engraving and color printing in France, mezzotint and caricature in Britain, social satire in Spain, and so on.  There are many brilliant prints and drawings here.  We hope you find them worthy of attention.
