Troncs d’Arbres

Etching, 1874, Béraldi 34, 84 x 70 mm. Very fine impression in brown-black ink with plate tone on laid paper with large, full margins, signed in pencil. The image shows the trunks and some foliage of trees by a large rock, obviously a study done directly from nature. Harpignies, while not really a member of the Barbizon group, was strongly influenced by their work. His paintings, watercolors and drawings are widely sought after, his fine etchings somewhat neglected today. Pencil signed impressions are rare.
