The Goldsmith

Etching and drypoint, 1655, 76 x 57 mm., B/R/S/123 ii/ii, Hind 285 ii/ii, Boone/ White 123 ii/ii, Nowell-Uticke 123 ii/iii, ex collection C. G. Tessin (?) (Lugt 2985). Fine, sharp impression of the second state (posthumous) with the added fine vertical shading along the lowest beam at the right (which later wears out), on laid paper with margins of at least 5 mm. all around. All the fine lines are clear and and distinct and the print is in fresh condition with no damages. A brown ink number in the lower margin may be in the hand of Count Tessin. N-U's third state, unmentioned by others, is after heavy rework and re-biting which essentially spoils the plate.
