Fine impression on laid paper trimmed on or along the platemark, tipped down. The print includes a title and date in French. Ali Bey (1728-1773) really was King of Egypt. Born in the Caucasus and sold into slavery in Egypt, he somehow became a Mameluke bey, seized the government in 1766 and declared Egypt independent of Turkey.
