Un Débarquement en Angleterre
Etching, drypoint, aquatint, roulette and spirit ground, 1879, 316 x 237 mm., Bourcard/Goodfriend 130 iv/v. A scarce and wonderful impression of this famous image before the plate was cut down, removing the marginal sketches, printed on laid paper with good margins, signed with the large, red owl stamp and with a pencilled number 5 and a notation that this is one of twenty impressions with marginal sketches before the plate was reduced. The scene is probably the pier at Ramsgate on the English coast and the atmosphere dark and stormy. Although a highly effective print in its cut-down final form, the marginal sketches add considerably to the image.
