A Genius
Hand-colored lithograph, 1834, 285 x 155 mm.. Not much is known about Tregear except that he was a publisher, designer and engraver of caricatures during the reform period. This clownish, daft creature with an expression of dimwitted sincerity unwittingly shares with us the nature of his head: "THIS FIDDLE I made out of my OWN HEAD And I have enough WOOD to make ANOTHER." He obviously had enough wood to make a cello. Margins stained, lower right margin corner restored.
