A Consultation of Doctors on the Case of S..r Toby Bumper

Etching with hand coloring, 1809 (?), British Museum Satires 11468; Walpole Library 807.2.26.1.2, 245 x 349 mm. Fine impression with good coloring on wove paper watermarked 1819, with good margins (thread at the top); light foxing or staining in the margins. The print has no hidden meaning (that we can figure out) and Toby Bumper is a fictional character. The subject is apparently an argument between medical adherents of allopathy (a form of homeopathy) and those who espouse physio-medicalism. Mr. Bumper has no patience for the argument but simply wants his fever cured so he can return to drinking.
