Etchings, 1624, 142 x 92 mm., Lieure 549-560 only states, L. 551 i/ii. ex collection: MLK (not in Lugt). Fine, evenly matched impressions on laid paper with the watermark of Interlaced "C"s with NV below and with uniform 5 mm. margins outside the plate mark; a few tiny rust marks. Apart from its delineation of fashionable costumes of the day, the set may well be one of hidden portraits, as Lieure remarks that L. 550 is a portrait of Callot himself, L. 549 and 560 apparent portraits of the future Mme. Callot, L. 554 of Jean Callot, the artist's brother, and L. 556 of Marguerite Callot, the artist's sister. Identifications for the others have not been suggested but they may represent other known individuals. A superb set.
