The Reaper
Wood engraving, 1852, 135 x 75 mm., Baas & Fields p. 32, fig. 11, B. N. Inv. N.D., Béraldi N.D., from Les Travaux des Champs.
A fine impression on chine volant from the portfolio edition of 1855 (it had previously been published in L'Illustration in 1853), with full margins; small stains and foxing in the margins, laid down on thin board. The image shows a worker bending over and cutting flax with a hand sickle. The drawing was made in 1852 by Millet.
