Vue du Chateau Fleury-en-Bière
Etching, 1934, 260 x 443 mm., Loyer 495 ii/ii. A fine impression on thick, stiff, cream wove paper with good margins, signed in pencil; a short tear in the left margin not affecting the platemark or image. Laboureur was certainly one of the great originals of etching (and engraving), his work almost always immediately recognizable with its open spaces, spare lines, tall, slim figures and the spirit of the Thirties and Art Deco emanating from it. This plate is just a bit unusual for him in its paucity of figures, and for very special reasons. The plate was etched on the commission of and for the owner of the chateau. The Chateau Fleury-en-Bière, in the Seine-et-Marne region of Ile-de-France and whose construction dates from the 12th, 16th and 18th centuries, was and is the property of the Marquis Hubert de Sanay and his family. This impression, in addition to Laboureur’s signature, bears a pen and ink inscription, "Souvenir de Fleury, 1936," and the signature of Hubert de Sanay. A nice souvenir; a nice print.
