Programme du Théâtre-Libre: Le Grappin & L'Affranchie
Lithograph, in colors, 1892, 229 x 310 mm., Aitken 14, B. N. Inv. 1.
Fine impression with the full letters and fresh color on thick wove paper with narrow but full margins; a few pale fox marks in the margin and on the verso. The image shows the circus strong man and two female performers standing on a platform as two soldiers pass by. The production was the first of the 1892-93 season, November 3, 1892. Ibels did six such programs. They have become icons of the métier, perhaps more so than any other artist’s work, and together they show the range of Ibels’ political and social approach to art.
