A Street in Monikendam
Etching, 1892, 200 x 150 mm., Hardie 287. Fine impression with light plate tone on laid paper with full margins, signed with initials in pencil. This is clearly one of Short’s “on the spot” etchings, sketched quickly before the figures moved and the scene changed. The economy of line is obvious, but so is the grasp of perspective and the architectural style of the buildings. Monikendam is a small port and fishing village in North Holland on the inland sea.
