Description: |
The cornet-a-pistons (for that what actually what he played) was developed in France about 1830 and, in the hands of Dufresne, soloist and assistant leader of the Concerts Musard, it caused a sensation in Paris. Dufresne, unwisely, left Musard to lead orchestras on his own and ultimately became Chef de la Musique of the Garde Nationale. A tall, thin man, he is shown sitting, in an impossible way, on a music stand (he seems to grow out of it), his cornet crossed on his breast. A fine impression on wove paper with large margins; a few small spots far from the image. Music catalog # 438. |
