Description: |
Conductor, composer and arranger, Musard was a great force in bringing music to the larger public. Dantan's bust, which dates from 1838, shows him at the height of his fame, directing the quadrille at a Bal de l'Opera. The print, in Maurisset's typical black figure, white line technique, shows the bust towards one side and from slightly below, as if the viewer were an orchestra member looking up at the conductor. Very effective. A splendid impression on wove paper with full margins. Music catalog # 439. |
