Description: |
Very fine impression on brownish laid paper with large margins, dedicated "à M. Lalanne" and signed in pencil; some old drying creases. The two sides of the plate extend well beyond the borderline here and may have been trimmed in a later state. The image is an attractive, if gloomy, winter scene in a hamlet of cottages and thatched huts, with ravens feeding in the snow. Bellée is practically forgotten today, but he was a clearly talented painter and etcher. |
