Description: |
Fine impression on laid paper with good margins, as published in l'Art; the paper is lightly time toned. The image shows the stork preserve, with dozens of birds, in the Jardin d'Acclimatatiion, a zoo in the northern section of the Bois de Boulogne in Paris. Only five years before this print, and during the siege of Paris, many of the animals in the zoo were cooked and eaten in one of Paris's best restaurants. The storks were either considered inedible, or else they multiplied quickly in the following years. |
