Description: |
Finished monotype in black on thick wove paper, unsigned as usual but definitely the work of Higgins; losses a the corners, filled in on the backing board and a short tear. Verso carries a partial inscription "…of the river," which may have been Higgins' original title (the given title is only descriptive). A bearded man with a cap, looking destitute, is stooping or climbing a hill, the moon behind him and patches of light in the sky and the ground in an undefined landscape. A strangely powerful image. |
