Description: |
Decorative, finished watercolor with a large landscape including trees with dappled foliage, a cottage, a distant windmill, cows drinking at a stream, a boatman on the stream, a very distant view of a town and, of course, the huntsman with his rifle and two dogs. The work is on wove paper laid down on another sheet and apparently unsigned; a few fox marks in the sky. The work seems close to that of Jurriaan Andriessen (1742-1819) but even closer to Joseph August Knip, the same palette of colors, same way of drawing foliage, same clouds. Several Knip watercolors are at the Christie's Paris sale of March, 2005, one signed, two unsigned. |
