Description: |
This appears to be the only known print by this Italian engraver of the first half of the 16th century, working in the style of Bonasone. The image shows a striding Diana accompanied by hounds and carrying a spear set in verdant landscape with cattle and a herdsman at the right and buildings among trees and rocky hills at the left. A clear impression with some range of tone on laid paper with the watermark of an anchor in a circle, trimmed to the image but complete; several old repaired tears, small restorations, many creases and printer's creases, a tiny hole, and old glue spots verso. The print must be quite rare; we have never seen an impression of it for sale. |
