Description: |
Fine impression, showing virtually no sign of rust marks though with the number, which on prints by the Hopfers indicates 17th-century impressions, on laid paper with narrow margins all around, the left margin ragged; a printer's crease at the far left just crossing the horse's hindmost leg. Bockstorffer made only eight prints, all of them iron etchings and all of them apparently made while he was at Augsburg (ca. 1524-31). He was originally Swiss, but worked in various locations in Switzerland and Germany. No impression of this print appears to have been at auction in the last twenty years. One may assume that it is rare. |
