Woodland Grove with Classical Figures
Pen and black ink and grey wash on laid paper, 1773, 213 x 278 mm.
Finished drawing with framing lines, signed with the monogram and dated in ink below the borderline. The style of the work is close to drawings by Adam Friedrich Oeser (1717-1799) and is obviously contemporaneous with him, but the manner of signing and the placement of the signature leads one to believe the draughtsman here is a print maker. The odd monogram, with the h inside the V or U, does not appear in Nagler’s Monogrammisten nor in Goldstein’s Monogramm Lexikon.
