Fine proof impression of the complete line block only, on laid japan paper with full margins, signed in pencil, dated 1931 and inscribed "etat," and with the blind stamp of the Peintres Graveurs. With the addition of tone blocks in blue and bistre, the print was published in 1936 by the Societe des Peintres-Graveurs Francais. A favorite Whistlerian subject, the view shows the docks at the left with moored barges and a freighter and a view of the opposite bank in the background. The whole has the appearance of a freely executed pen and ink drawing and is something of a technical tour-de-force as a woodcut. |
