Description: |
Nice, detailed sketch on thin wove paper, the background in pencil, the foreground worked up in brown ink, signed in full and with initials. The scene shows a single female figure, seen from the back, sitting on a dock by a huge pile of sailing and fishing gear, looking out to sea. At the far left a few men carry equipment down to a boat, and in the background the flotilla of fishing boats about to depart. Framing lines at the edges of the sheet; a few old creases. A very attractive drawing. Inscribed verso with the full title. Douarnenez is a fishing village in Brittany, near Quimper. |
