Description: |
Brown, an American, was a student of Gerome and Bonnat in Paris. He is best known for his illustrations for Mark Twain's "A Tramp Abroad," and for scenes of Venice, his adopted home. This is a relatively early work, a sensitive, full-length study of a bearded young man raising a baton and holding a score, the subject not identified but perhaps identifiable. Signed, inscribed "Paris" and dated "Feb. 78." Music catalog #453. |
