Description: |
Cosimo came to England in 1702 and published there a set of 12 chamber sonatas, of which this print is the title page, dedicated to the Duke of Bedford, his patron earlier in Rome. In a classical landscape, by a stone monument, three winged putti respectively sing, point at the inscription, and play a beautifully engraved cello. At the right, a winged female figure holds a straight trumpet and a coat of arms, presumably Bedford's. A very attractive mezzotint and a superb impression on laid paper, trimmed on the platemark; a few surface scratches at the corners. Music catalog #357. |
