Description: |
Very fine impression, before the plate was completely reworked, on thick, textured wove paper with small margins, signed in pencil and annotated 2e Etat; a tiny tear in the right margin only. The drawing of the trees, cypresses and oaks, which fill the plate from left to right, is exquisite. The vast landscape is seen through the trees, cattle wander among them, a herdsman sleeps at the foot of a tree at the center, and in the shadows, at the lower left corner, a couple embrace in the shrubbery (a little remembrance of Rembrandt). |
