Description: |
Red chalk sketch of a seated infant, perhaps an infant Christ, his arms outstretched, with a partial sketch, in black chalk, of another reclining infant, on laid paper, backed and on an old mount. The mount notes twice that the print is from the Heseltine collection. Although we have not found a Christ Child in this exact pose in any painting or print by Cantarini, there are many that are quite close and the fact that the sheet comes from such an eminent collection, would seem to reinforce the attribution. The Child is superbly if quickly drawn with true expression. |
